As your retirement approaches or arrives, you should examine these items.
Beneficiaries
- NYS retirement (if you have selected an
appropriate plan)
- City of Syracuse (incorrectly
called the PBA insurance) $25,000 free life
insurance. At age 60, the coverage reduces to $5,000.
- Fraternal Association
- Deferred Income Plans
- Social Security Income
Health Insurance
- As a retiree, you will be required to pay
an annual deductible.
- You must make co-pays per visit.
- You must use mail order
(MEDCO) for continuing prescriptions.
- Your surviving spouse may continue
health insurance coverage (as stated above), for a monthly premium of approx $90.
Other items to consider
- Joining the Syracuse & Central NY Police
Retirees Association
- You may continue coverage of the City
of Syracuse Dental Plan (for 18 months), at your cost.
- Update or obtain a gun permit
- SSI & Medicare programs etc
- Getting Direct Deposit via the NYS
Retirement Plan
- Loan payments with your credit union or bank
that are currently paid via payroll
